Wall Art Size Consultation

Why Your Clients Should Think Bigger

The Importance of Size Consultation

The Importance of Size Consultation

A common challenge professional photographers face is helping clients envision how a Wall Art will look in their own space. Many clients hesitate when considering larger formats, often choosing smaller sizes that feel more comfortable, even when you know a bigger piece would create a much greater impact at home. This hesitation represents a significant missed opportunity for both your clients and your business.

Effective size consultation allows you to position yourself as a trusted advisor, not just a service provider. Guiding your clients toward the ideal format ensures they experience the full effect of their images, while you maximize the value of every sale.

Three Formulas that Work

Three Formulas that Work

Bigger almost always works. When a client asks, you should be convincing and use the right arguments. Here are three rules that can help you:

  • The Sofa Rule: The Wall Art should be about 2/3 the width of the sofa. For a 240cm sofa, we're talking about at least 160cm image width.
  • The Wall Rule: Use 60-75% of the available wall width. On a 300cm wide wall, the picture may be 180-220cm wide.
  • The Distance Rule: The optimal viewing distance is approximately 1.5 times the image’s diagonal measurement. A simple guideline is that you should be able to stand about two steps away from the picture for comfortable viewing.
What Works Where? The Room Guide

What Works Where? The Room Guide

  • Living Room: Above the sofa, formats from 150cm width really start to work. Empty walls can even handle over 200cm. The reason: large viewing distances make large pictures possible.
  • Bedroom: Find tranquility through the right size. Above the bed, 120-150cm width works harmoniously. Side walls should have smaller Wall Art (80-120cm) so the room doesn't feel overloaded. Tip: Landscape formats are more calming than portrait formats.
  • Hallway: First impressions count! Narrow hallways love portrait formats (60x90cm upwards). Wide entrance areas can handle statement formats up to 150cm. Here you can be bold: transform a hallway into a gallery!
  • Office: Behind the desk, a Wall Art should measure at least 120cm, better 150cm. In waiting areas, large formats create a relaxing atmosphere (starting at 120cm).
How to Convince Skeptical Customers

How to Convince Skeptical Customers

  • Let's take a look at this!: Photoshop mockups or even cardboard templates make it easy for clients to see exactly how each piece will look on their wall. That’s why we also include a visualization tool in our webshop and software.
  • Comparisons create clarity: Clients understand size better with real-world comparisons: “That’s about the size of a 55-inch TV” or “Your dining table is 160cm long.” Familiar references make larger formats feel less intimidating.
  • Talk about value: When upselling, focus on the added effect: “For just 40 euros more, the larger format has triple the impact.” Emphasize benefits over costs.
